BP Fallon Hits SXSW, Preps Debut LP

March 12, 2013

BP FallonAs fans of BP Fallon since his 2010 debut single, the Jack White-produced “I Believe in Elvis Presley,” it was a thrill to discover during the week of SXSW that the Irish DJ, former Led Zeppelin publicist, and now musician was in town to record his first full-length record. Fallon and his band, the Bandits, did manage to find time away from the studio, Austin’s Red Horse Ranch, to perform a few gigs in town for the festival. But it was work on the LP that truly brought the gang down to Texas this March.

News of the upcoming set, titled Still Legal, didn’t arrive via traditional routes (a press release, FB announcement, et al.), but rather the below featurette, documenting the group’s trip to Austin, Fallon’s ascent from rock’s backstage to the spotlight, and behind-the-scenes studio footage. Most notably, perhaps, is the formation of Fallon’s band, which includes drummer Clem Burke and bassist Nigel Harrison, two members of the Rock Hall of Fame-inducted Blondie lineup. Fallon has always been a guy who could enlist talented (and yeah, famous) names at the drop of his ever-present bowler cap, but now he’s putting these guys to particular good use.

Based on the clips, we can expect a vintage ’70s rock vibe comprising the backdrop, while Fallon takes the role of frontman/rock poet with his half-sung/half-spoken lyrical delivery. If the aforementioned single is any indication, this record will be a highlight of the year around here.
