Setting aside Ryan Adams’ foray into metal, Orion, and archival Cardinals double-disc, III/IV, his next release will mark the longest gap between proper LPs of Adams’ career. And if that doesn’t turn the anticipation up a notch, the fact that he’s re-teamed with the Johns family — working this time with legendary Rolling Stones/Who producer Glyn Johns rather than his son, Heartbreaker/Gold/29‘s Ethan Johns — has left me particularly intrigued to hear the latest effort. Not to mention recent live previews, which turned the heads of longtime fans and detractors alike. Now Adams has given Q Magazine early details, revealing that the record, titled Ashes & Fire, features “12 elegant country-rock songs” alongside guests Norah Jones and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers’ Benmont Tench. With no plans to release more archival material or outtakes, Ashes & Fire is shaping up to be a notably focused effort.
While most of this news spread yesterday, we can now add a possible release date for his 11th record to the mix: October 11. Below is a short live taste of the title track alongside recent tour standout “Dirty Rain.” *Update: Check out the tracklist and first single below:
