I first heard “Passenger” in San Francisco last November while stuck behind the guy filming this video. I’m thrilled, therefore, that some high quality footage of Lisa Hannigan performing her new song has finally hit the web courtesy of Irish TV show Other Voices.
It’s no wonder that the lyrics have a geographical theme, as Hannigan and her band have been touring North America and the globe nonstop since the release of her debut solo LP, Sea Sew, back in 2008 (early ‘09 stateside). That record was a brilliantly understated solo debut, IMO, pleasantly devoid of the kind of histrionics or self-pity that would have made for an easier media tagline in the wake of her split with Damien Rice. (In fact, I should ease up on mentioning his name in Hannigan posts going forward.)
Here’s hoping a follow-up to Sea Sew is on the way, but in the meantime, watch Hannigan sing about her travels through Chicago, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Minneapolis, and other stops on recent U.S. tours here or below:
