As it turns out, the Radiohead covers EP I mentioned last week isn’t the only forthcoming cover song project for Amanda Palmer. This time, however, the former Dresden Dolls frontwoman will be among a host famous names to reinterpret, re-imagine, and remix another band. Pre-orders and deluxe packages of New Jersey indie-rock outfit Steel Train’s new self-titled LP will be accompanied by Terrible Thrills Vol. 1, an album of new versions of the band’s songs by an all-female roster, including Tegan & Sara, Scarlett Johansson, Palmer, Holly Miranda, Anna Waronker, Deradoorian, Rachel Antonoff, Alia Shawkat, and others.
“I couldn’t be happier with how the new Steel Train album turned out,” said Steel Train co-founder Jack Antonoff in a statement to the press. “But when I was writing these new songs, I had pictured a female taking the lead. With Terrible Thrills, my wish came true.”
Pre-orders for the the band’s third full-length album, as well as Terrible Thrills Vol. 1, can be placed ahead of the June 29 release date here.
