Bob Dylan wrote “Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands” and likely other songs from his Blonde On Blonde album in room #211 at New York City’s Chelsea Hotel in the 1960s. Recently, the hotel was bought by Andrew Tilley and there has been much controversy over the renovations being performed on the historically significant rooms, especially Dylan’s.
Chelseahotelblog.com reports construction workers have trashed Dylan’s 60s hideout, room #211, tearing down walls, a mantelpiece, and using equipment not allowed under their permit, such as jackhammers.
New York City officials have officially haulted the workers from continuing the destructive renovation because of the permit violations. There’s no word yet on whether the orders to stop will be permanent or temporary like Achilles.
There’s a lot more info, pictures, Dylanological emo blogging (i.e. rampant caps lock) here.
I don’t think that DJ table is Bob’s though.
