Though Laura Marling’s latest album, I Speak Because I Can, is undoubtedly my favorite singer/songwriter of the year so far, that gorgeously unpretentious folk record is going to have big competition before 2010 is up: Marling and producer/drummer Ethan Johns are already gearing up to record a second LP.
In fact, the pair revealed plans for a follow-up to I Speak in conjunction with that record’s announcement, so it’s possible that the new album is already in the can. Either way, at least two new songs sound pretty darn ready to be put to tape to me: Marling performed “Rest In the Bed” and “Don’t Ask Me Why,” two brand new tunes, on WNYC’s Spinning On Air with David Garland earlier this week and we’ve got two high quality videos/recordings to prove it.
