St. Vincent’s Annie Clark will follow up her 2009 sophomore LP, Actor, on September 13 with another John Congleton-produced effort: Strange Mercy, a new album announced today, featuring Midlake’s McKenzie Smith, Beck collaborator Brian LeBarton, and others for the 4AD release. Given Clark’s proven electric guitar prowess, one sentence from the press release is particularly intriguing:
“Strange Mercy finds St. Vincent redefining the idea of the guitar hero, utilising the instrument as a pointillist artist might wield a brush. Countless judiciously placed riffs and instrumental flares, each distinct and unique, cohere into grand tableaus.”
More information — aside from tracks titles “Cruel,” “Cheerleader,” and “Surgeon” — is still on the way, but I’ll be looking forward to hearing if any recordings from her recent David Byrne collaboration made the cut.
