There’s been talk of an imminent sequel to Laura Marling’s brilliant sophomore album, I Speak Because I Can, ever since, well, that LP was released in 2010, but now comes word from Marling herself that her follow-up third record has been completed as of just a few weeks ago. As it turns out, original sessions for an I Speak sequel were scrapped in favor of a proper, independently-conceived effort, produced once again by Ethan Johns. Today’s good news arrived via Marling’s guest DJ set on BBC 6 Music’s Vinyl Revival program, during which the singer-songwriter also chose some excellent cuts to spin alongside picks made by Paul Weller, and Norman “Fatboy Slim” Cook.
Further details — aside from the many promising new tunes she debuted live — for LP3 are scant as of yet, but while we wait, you can enjoy those links to new material above and stream five of Marling’s favorite vinyl cuts by folk forebears Smog, Ryan Adams, Joni Mitchell and Fleetwood Mac below.
