A viral YouTube sensation, which earned regular coverage from MTV and a recent Twitter-debunking by Trent Reznor, has perhaps reached its climax, as Swedish singer/songwriter Jonna Lee has been outed as the star of the creepy Iamamiwhoami series.
Ohnotheydidn’t pieced images behind the mystery together with readily-available media on the web (via We All Want Someone To Shout For) and Lee, who will be performing music from her forthcoming third LP at SXSW this week, looks to be the culprit. In fairness, her reps claim to have “no knowledge of such” things… that they “are aware of.” Hmmm.
The jig was truly up after Lee ostensibly uploaded the first full song to the channel yesterday, revealing more of her voice and physical identity than ever before. If you compare this picture to the heavily-disguised singer in the video, you’d be hard-pressed not to close the book on this one. Either way, I do applaud Lee for this creative hoax, which certainly did not harm anyone. Not to mention her music is quite worthy of the attention.
