The White Stripes’ cover of “Look Me Over Closely” could turn anyone into a Marlene Dietrich fan, I say, but a biopic starring Gwyneth Paltrow? Hmmm… Times Online reports that the Oscar-winning actress, Goop founder, and “Killing Me Softly” singer will produce and take the lead in an upcoming film about the life of the famous actress/singer.
According to the biopic’s writer, Andrew Davies (Pride and Prejudice, Bleak House), the script begins at the time of Dietrich’s breakthrough role in the 1930 German film The Blue Angel (Der blaue Engel) and follows her subsequent move to Hollywood during World War II. As Davies says the film will also cover Dietrich’s life during the 1950s, we can presume her work as a recording artist with Mitch Miller on Columbia Records will also make the cut. In other words, there should be lots of singing.
The as-yet-untitled film will air on the BBC in the UK and HBO in America.
