When 28-year-old composer Nico Muhly isn’t busy collaborating with the likes of Arcade Fire, Grizzly Bear, Antony, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, and Björk, the NYC-based prodigy always has plenty of film, orchestral, and now opera projects on his plate. The latest addition to Muhly’s jaw-dropping-for-his-age-oeuvre? His first ever opera, featuring a libretto by renowned Tony/Pulitzer Prize-nominated playwright Craig Lucas, reports TheaterMania.
Though said opera, Two Boys, tells a fictional story, it is actually based on a real-life incident in which a 14-year-old boy posed as various women online in an unsuccessful attempt to lure strangers into murdering him. (An early Chris Hansen project?)
Two Boys, which is directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher and co-produced by The Metropolitan Opera as well as the English National Opera, is set to premiere in London next summer.
