As anyone who’s seen the 2005 documentary You’re Gonna Miss Me knows, we’re lucky to still have Roky Erickson alive, well and performing new music, after overcoming decades of personal and psychiatric hurdles. And not only is the former 13th Floor Elevators frontman still creating music at 62, but he’ll release his first album of original songs in over a decade on 4/20 this year.
Okkervil River, who have performed as Erickson’s backing band before, also backed the legendary psychedelic rock singer for his forthcoming album, True Love Cast Out All Evil, produced by frontman Will Sheff.
According to Sheff, the final track list was whittled down from 60 possible unreleased songs that Erickson has accumulated over the years. Check out the 12 that made the cut below, as well as the cover art (full size) to True Love Cast Out All Evil above (via Anti Blog):
1. Devotional Number One
2. Ain’t Blues Too Sad
3. Goodbye Sweet Dreams
4. Be and Bring Me Home
5. Bring Back the Past
