So I’m going through a few old email addresses (linking them up to one account, remembering all the random stuff I’ve signed up for, etc.) when, lo and behold, Jesse Malin has sent me (and all his fans) a message.
In spite of not making many headlines last year, Malin was keeping insanely busy with future projects, including interviewing Ric Ocasek (the Cars), Al Anderson (Bob Marley and the Wailers), and former Bad Brains collaborator Jerry Williams for Mandy Stein and Benjamen Logan’s upcoming documentary Bad Brains: A Band in D.C. But that’s probably not the bit that brought you here…
Malin also revealed that a new record is in the can by a band called ATM, aka “Adams Tastemaker Malin—the supergroup.” He’s being a bit cryptic there (not really), but we can say for certain that “Tastemaker” is Johnny T. Yerington, Malin’s business partner at NYC bars Niagara and The Bowery Electric, as well as Ryan Adams’ former drummer. What’s more, Adams, Malin, and Johnny T made a record before (We Are Fuck You), in a one-off band dubbed The Finger. Get it? We can’t claim to be 110% certain that ATM’s “Adams” is in fact “Ryan Adams,” but, I mean, come on.
An official release isn’t likely on the immediate horizon (Malin’s current label told us that they have no knowledge of this project), but at least we have Malin’s newest studio LP coming out in March to look forward to in the meantime.
