There haven’t been too many official music videos that I could get behind of late, but this new Shimmy Marcus-directed video for BP Fallon’s B-side “I Believe In Elvis Presley,” which features Jack White behind the boards and guitars, as well as the Raconteurs’ Patrick Keeler on the drums, is nothing short of brilliant. Did I mention that My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields and Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie also make quick cameos? Well, they do.
The song is currently available on iTunes or on the flip side to “Fame #9,” Fallon’s first Third Man Records 7”.
Marcus, who also directed Fallon in the film Headrush, draws inspiration from Bob Dylan’s classic “Subterranean Homesick Blues” video to highlight Fallon’s play on the lyrics of John Lennon’s “God”. Whereas Lennon’s list declared his disbelief in Beatles, Hitler, Jesus, Kennedy, and Elvis, Fallon takes the positive route, starting with “I believe in Elvis Presley” and adding Lewis Carroll, Oscar Wilde, Muddy Waters, the Jackson Five, and MLK to the list. Oh, and he also believes in MP3s, Tutti Frutti, and LSD.
