I’m happy to have renewed my subscription to Jack White’s Third Man Vault just in time to get the heads-up about tomorrow’s big announcement, but perhaps I should’ve saved my 7 bucks for this epic box set instead. Jack White and company will begin taking pre-orders tomorrow on WhiteStripes.com for a limited edition release of their Canadian tour documentary, The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights.
Now here’s where it gets interesting: The box set’s (also epic) $179 asking price gets you a DVD of the feature-length film, a DVD of their 10th anniversary concert in Nova Scotia, the “first-ever official live album from The White Stripes” (a compilation of 16 tracks from the ‘07 Canadian tour) on 180 gram vinyl and CD, a 7” single, hardcover Autumn de Wilde-shot photo book of the tour with a foreword by Jim Jarmusch (!), and one of Rob Jones’ awesome silkscreens.
That $179 price point is only available until the end of this year (it will cost $229 afterward), but the documentary DVD and live album will be released individually on the same day that the box sets are shipped (Mar 16).
Unofficial pre-orders have popped up on a couple sketchy sites so far, but we suggest you go thataway first thing tomorrow morning if you’ve got the dough.
