Julien Temple, the director of multiple Sex Pistols documentaries and a host of classic music videos, has teamed up with former Kinks frontman Ray Davies to plot a feature film about the tumultuous relationship between Ray and his brother Dave Davies.
Screendaily reports that the film, tentatively titled You’ve Really Got Me, will explore how the plight of the sparring Davies brothers can be employed, as Temple says, to tell “the untold story of all those big bands of the 1960s.”
There’s no cast and not even a script set for the rock drama just yet, but we do know that the actors themselves will be performing the music. “[T]hat is believable and real,” Temple asserts, “while miming is problematic.”
Somebody better enlist T Bone Burnett to run the actor-turned-singer boot camp, I say. His work with Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon on Walk the Line was nothing short of brilliant, not to mention the upcoming Jeff Bridges-starring film Crazy Heart may very well add a few more Oscars to Burnett’s shelf. But I digress.
Let the Kinks reunion speculation begin!
