Kicking off a string of solo dates last night, Jeff Tweedy opened for, and later jammed with, Yo La Tengo on the 3rd night of their Hanukkah residency at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, New Jersey. The setlist included a handful of covers by the likes of Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Gary U.S. Bonds, and the Coasters, as well as Wilco originals — YHF tunes “Jesus, Etc.,” and “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart” — sung by Tweedy with Yo La Tengo as his backing band (they have a bit of experience in this area). Also notable was the Wilco frontman’s solo performance of my personal favorite Uncle Tupelo tune, “Gun.” Our pals at Consequence of Sound promptly checked YouTube this morning, when, lo and behold, someone has uploaded 4 high quality clips from the show. Enjoy them below:
“Jesus, Etc.” (Wilco)
“Eight Day Weekend” (Gary U.S. Bonds’ “Seven Day Weekend”)
“I Am Trying To Break Your Heart” (Wilco)
“Gun” (Uncle Tupelo)
