Two fan-funded album projects have crossed my radar in as many weeks: First up, we mentioned that Marissa Nadler was raising cash to help pay for her next LP by selling a 17-track covers album on Etsy, but now the singer-songwriter is seeking a bit more support (about $3k as of this post) to secure a professional studio for a 2-week session in January. For pledge options that include digital, physical, and autographed copies of the future album, as well as higher priced donations that come bundled with custom songs, demos, and personalized concerts, click here.
Pedro the Lion’s David Bazan also has a potentially fan-backed solo record in the works. Although Bazan has received some financial backing from indie label Barsuk Records, completing the project in a timely manner — without having to tour to raise more cash — has become an issue. According to his website, “the songs are all there, recording is underway,” but buying a copy now for $35 or $45 will keep sessions alive while earning you an “I Helped Bazan Make A Record” T-shirt, your name in the liner notes, and a CD or vinyl copy of the record.
