Jack White’s new Nashville-based Third Man Records vinyl shop and hit factory sure has hit the ground running. First, The Dead Weather put out a 7” single and announced their full-length debut Horehound is due in mid-July. Then Jack’s collaboration with Dexter Romweber, set to drop later this month, was revealed in interviews. Now Jack is offering two solo projects from NYC’s The Citizens Band: Rachelle Garniez and Mildred and the Mice. The latter’s frontwoman is highly rumored to be Jack’s wife, model Karen Elson.
“The mysterious goth milquetoast ‘mildred’ appeared before jack white at a hardware store In Kentucky,” a description reads on Third Man’s distributor’s site, followed by more of Jack’s obvious storytelling:
She had no demo to give, nor guitar with her, so instead she sang her song “I like my mice (dead)” at the top of her lungs in front of several hardware store customers before quickly walking out Of the store in shy earnest… She hails from the mammoth cave area, but hasn’t given the staff an age, or current address! (don’t worry we’ll be holding her royalty checks here for her.) In fact her mother dropped her off at third man studio for the single session and waited patiently In a winnebago outside the studio until mildred was done recording. Mildred showed up with a very Cool gretsch princess guitar but called it a “gitch”.
Elson (whom I can’t 100% confirm is Mildred, but for this rumor, I’ll bite) has performed in the cabaret troupe The Citizens Band for years with Rachelle Garniez, the singer/songwriter offering a 7” single from Third Man Records. According to Forte Music Distribution, Garniez’s “My House of Peace” will drop on May 25 along with Mildred and the Mice’s, “I Like My Mice (Dead)”/”Spiderbite.”
** Update: Third Man Records just sent their mailing list a link to their online store for pre-orders here. In addition to the above mentioned singles, The Dead Weather are also releasing “Treat Me Like Your Mother”/“You Just Can’t Win.”
