As soon as the trailer for Save the Date quoted a critic’s Garden State comparison, the odds of a solid soundtrack went through the roof. Now with the tracklist in front of me it’s clear a promising set of upcoming voices will be sure to find fresh ears come November, when the Michael Mohan-directed indie rom-com hits theaters. While most of the names here aren’t household names just yet, many of them will be familiar to those of us with a keen eye on music blogs.
Before we get to that, though, Wilco leads off the soundtrack with one of their most accessible cuts, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot‘s, “Heavy Metal Drummer,” soon followed by disco veteran Giorgio Moroder’s “Baby Blue.”
One emerging song we’ve praised on these very pages, Nick Waterhouse’s “Some Place,” was also chosen for Save the Date while retro-soul singer Charles Bradley — who turned in one of our favorite cover songs of 2011 — appears for “Lovin’ You Baby.”
In short, if the trailer and impressive list of songs below are any indication, this whole project will be incredibly charming — and possibly a 2012 favorite for fellow fans of indie romance flicks. In the meantime, preview the OST below:
