Trey Anastasio, Let Me Lie

Trey Anastasio Let Me LieLast month, we praised the first single, “Scabbard,” off Trey Anastasio’s new solo album, Travelerfor the sprawling cut’s nod to his work in Phish and earlier solo LPs, while it broke plenty of new sonic ground. Today brings another taste from the album, which was co-produced by Trey and Peter Katis, and it’s a much different beast: “Let Me Lie” shows off some of the folk-rock and pop sensibilities Anastasio has been honing since at least the late-’90s (and perhaps most obviously on 2000’s Farmhouse).

An upbeat and uplifting track, this might divide fans a bit more between those more keen on his inimitable, genre-bending side and those who love a laid-back traditional tune. (For what it’s worth, we’re in both camps, so it’s a welcome update to hear either side explored on the set). Also of note, this is the third cycling-related pop song to reach these ears — alongside Queen’s “Bicycle Race” and Mark Ronson’s “The Bike Song” — and all three have proven to be indelible, endearing gems.

So, without further ado, stream Trey’s take on Bike-pop above.
