We’ve seen a few previews of the soundtrack to The Master via teaser trailers for the Paul Thomas Anderson-written/directed drama, but today brings big news for the score by Jonny Greenwood and our first decent taste of the music. In addition to 11 original pieces composed by the Radiohead guitarist/keyboardist, The Master OST features four era-specific, previously released tracks: “Get Thee Behind Me Satan” by Ella Fitzgerald, actress Madisen Beaty singing “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree,” Helen Forrest performing “Changing Partners,” and — a cut we spotted in the full-length trailer for the film — 1950’s “No Other Love” originally recorded by Jo Stafford.
Nonesuch Records have announced that they will release The Master soundtrack to coincide with the film hitting theaters in September. The 15-track set will arrive on the 11th of that month, complete with Greenwood’s “Application 45 Version 1,” available now upon pre-ordering the album here.
As for the film, an early surprise screening impressed at least one audience earlier in August, with a number of comments hitting the web that suggest fellow fans of There Will Be Blood and PT Anderson’s oeuvre in general will not be disappointed. Can’t wait to see the film, but in the meantime, here’s a glimpse at the tracklist:
