A pair of stunning songs from The xx’s forthcoming album, Coexist, have arrived, and we’d be remiss not getting caught up in the wake of “Chained” arriving just days ago. First up, our first taste of the group’s sophomore set came in the form of “Angels” earlier this summer. Sparse, intimate and heavy with personal sentiment, the cut finds The xx building on the promise of their breakout debut. It’s an excellent teaser track, too, which ends all too soon at just under 3 minutes and leaves you burning for more studio gems. Enter “Chained,” another hushed track that arrives with a more fleshed-out rhythm section — still subtle and haunting yet with that undercurrent of restraint (hence the title) we’ve come to expect and love from this band.
All told, fans of their self-titled 2009 set will be happy to hear they haven’t tinkered with the formula too much, while continuing to push forward. That said, this LP should have no trouble recruiting new ears either. So, without further ado, get psyched for the September release via two promising previews below:
