If a report by The Telegraph turns out to be true tonight, the great Kate Bush will mark perhaps the biggest live comeback of the year tonight for the 2012 Olympics closing ceremony. According to the paper, Bush is set to perform along with the likes of the Who, Ray Davies of the Kinks, George Michael, the Spice Girls, Take That, Muse and many more. Update: A recording of the “Running Up That Hill” Olympics remix is set to play during the ceremony, rather than a live performance.
As for which song Bush will treat us to after only spare one-offs since her last full live tour in 1979, rumors of her brilliant 1985 song “Running Up That Hill (Deal With God)” are nearly confirmed now that a 2012 remix of the track has surfaced for purchase in the U.K. and other countries outside of the U.S.
Featuring production design by Mark Fisher, who worked on Pink Floyd’s infamous stage show for The Wall, visuals promise to be a real treat tonight, as well. The London Olympics opening ceremony will be a tough show to top, but this is — along with a big concert from Blur — shaping up to be an ensemble set for the ages. In the meantime, we’ll be keeping an eye out for more details and will update as they arrive.
