The Killers: Runaways

There’s been a Brandon Flowers solo album and other side projects, but today officially marks the end of a 4-year wait for new studio material from The Killers. “Runaways,” the first single from the Las Vegas quartet’s fourth LP, Battle Born (also the name of their Nevada recording studio), hit the radio and YouTube this morning — complete with a chorus that reaches for the rafters and a rousing arrangement fitting somewhat seamlessly among standout cuts from past efforts. While the tune comes packed with plenty of hooks and memorable nuance, it’s hard to say upon the first couple spins if it will endure as well as their earlier work. Either way, a promising start here to what will surely be a must-listen record come fall — especially given the set’s all-star studio team, which includes production heavweights Daniel Lanois, Steve Lillywhite, Brendan O’Brien, and longtime Killers cohort Stuart Price.
