Music legends Emmylou Harris and longtime collaborator Rodney Crowell have teamed up once again for a full-length record of duets. Produced by Joe Henry, much of The Traveling Kind was recorded in under a week — not a surprising feat when you consider Harris, Crowell, and co.’s talent for turning even live performances into classic, record-ready moments.
Among the set’s eleven cuts are six original cuts they penned themselves (with a little help from talented friends Mary Carr, Cory Chisel, Will Jennings, and Larry Klein), as well as a Lucinda Williams and Amy Allison covers.
Our first taste is the lovely title track above. With little more than their harmony-familiar voices knit together over a pair of acoustic guitars, an undulating kick drum, and a warm bass part, the pair proves yet again they can put an indelible moment to tape, as naturally as the wind blows.
