Karen Elson: “Milk and Honey”

This fine cover may have officially arrived many moons ago, but we’ve got two appropriate reasons to revisit the take today: 1) Jackson C. Frank is a legend, whose music never fully got its due in his lifetime — an unfortunate fact that we, along with Laura Marling and John Hawkes, hope to help make right. 2) Karen Elson just dropped a new video for her inspired rendition that we’d be remiss in not sharing.

Complete with an old-school RCA ribbon microphone, lit candles, and moody black-and-white camera work, Elson’s new clip injects a ton of life into this old song. The model/songwriter/former wife to Jack White first encountered this cut via Sandy Denny’s 1972 version, but it’s safe to say upon viewing this performance that we can expect a host of future Frank fans to discover his music through his song’s latest incarnation.
