Only a few weeks after Bob Dylan announced the release of his holiday album, Christmas in the Heart, former American Idol runner-up David Archuleta announced the upcoming release of his Christmas record, coincidentally (or was it?) titled Christmas From the Heart. What’s more, the two records were both due out on the same day (Oct. 18).
NY Mag’s Lane Brown was on the case, penning an amusing blog post about the rivalry, which facetiously asked, “Which legendary music-biz titan will move more units?” and declared “Christmas just got hotter.”
Well, the numbers have just come in and though we can declare that Dylan is the album sales winner, neither record scored a chart position worth bragging about. According to Hits Daily Double, Dylan moved 17,350 units, placing Christmas in the Heart at #31, while Archuleta’s Christmas From the Heart was only about 1k sold albums behind, at #32.
There’s only one thing I learned from this anticlimactic showdown: It’s a good thing Michael Bublé didn’t have a horse in this race.
