It was a pleasant surprise to see that Jack White nephew and now Third Man Records’ director of production Ben Blackwell wrote the latest press release for singer-songwriter Kelley Stoltz, as the San Francisco based home-recordist has not only shared the stage with the Raconteurs and released music through Blackwell’s indie label, Cass Records, but his DIY, analog-loyal aesthetic would make him a perfect addition to the White family, I’d say. To wit: Stoltz’s new 13-track LP, To Dreamers, includes a cover of psych-rock veteran Pete “Big Boy” Miller’s single “Baby I Got News for You,” recorded with Miller himself employing “the very valve amps and guitar used on the 1965 original, to add vocals and fuzz.”
Look for To Dreamers on October 12 via Sub Pop, but in the meantime, the first catchy single “I Don’t Get That” is available as a free download from the label. Grab the MP3 on their site here and give it a spin alongside the official tracklist below:
