In keeping with David Bowie’s meta approach to recent album art, last year’s Tilda Stardust meme just got a shot in the arm thanks to his new video for “The Stars (Are Out Tonight).” This is the second preview for the new Bowie record, The Next Day, and it co-stars Oscar winner Tilda Swinton as his loving wife/doppelgänger. Things start off innocuous enough at the grocery store, where the couple happen upon sensationalized tabloid reports (by the so-called Pantheon Weekly). “It’s more exciting than anything we’ve got around here,” says Bowie’s character. “I wouldn’t say that,” adds Swinton with a kiss on the cheek. “We have a nice life.” From that moment on, director Floria Sigismondi’s clip gets progressively more surreal, complete with more Bowie-a-likes, the most disturbing ham carving ever caught on film, and other welcome weirdness.
