Iggy Pop: The Stooges Are Still Kicking

When The Stooges’ guitarist Ron Asheton tragically passed away in January, the future of the band was very dim. Asheton was such a major influence on the band and on rock music in general. Also, Iggy Pop’s recent foray into jazz didn’t offer much hope for Stooges fans wishing for another tour and album. Pop, however, has hinted in an interview that there is actually a lot in store for fans of the iconic rock band.

“We have a large vault, and I’ve been fooling around with different ways to approach vocals,” Pop told Rolling Stone, adding that they are “developing something with a dramatic filmmaker.” Scorsese, perhaps? Jonathan Demme? Pop stopped short of giving any revealing details, but he did respond to the rumor that the Sex Pistols’ Steve Jones has been floated as a possible Ron Asheton replacement. “I talked to Steve, and if I wanted an extra guitar, he’d be the guy to call,” Pop said. “The group still exists. I’m not gonna tell you more than that.”
