It’s possible that the Arctic Monkeys learned Calvin Harris’ trick of pretending to get your album stolen to delay finishing it for the record label, but frontman Alex Turner claims that their forthcoming Josh Homme produced effort hit a bump in the road when a book containing his new lyrics was stolen.
In an interview with NME.com, Turner described how the robbery was actually a blessing in disguise. “I went the morning after and brought a couple of Moleskines and sat around for a couple of hours trying to remember it all,” he said. “But I found the whole process made me write more things, complete things that I wouldn’t have otherwise.”
The Arctic Monkeys’ as-yet-untitled third album will likely drop in August because, as drummer Matt Helders told Drowned In Sound recently, they want to get it out before the Leeds and Reading festivals.
