Esmé Patterson gets towed upon a field of daisies to dance, bounce, pull, shake, and shuffle off her mortal coil in the David Fishel-directed video for “No River.” The record is We Were Wild, Patterson’s follow-up to the 24B fave Woman to Woman set, and it’s a lovely, transcendent move from the Denver singer-songwriter. No hints needed to find themes in this clip: from the lyrics (“I can’t sit still forever / I’m no mountain / I’m human, I’m human”) to Carlye Eckert’s delightfully unkempt choreography to the tune’s in-the-pocket rhythm and buoyant melody, we’re talking about a party for simply living amid our earthly limitations here. You could skip all that, though, because to be honest it’s just an upbeat jam if that’s all you need it to be. Returning from a long hiatus here at 24B, that’s exactly what I needed.
