The Secret Sisters have taken a charmed first step into the record-making business so far, with the likes of T Bone Burnett, Jack White, and more joining the Muscle Shoals duo’s initial step into the limelight. Having Burnett on board, in particular, has led to many talented connections: Neko Case and Marc Ribot, to name just two, and now Bob Dylan, to name one more. “Bob sent over some songs for you guys to listen to and choose one to finish,” Burnett told them midway through the sophomore effort. Bob being arguably the best songwriter ever, that’s one hell of a care package, and “Dirty Lie” does the nod justice. Ribot hits the moody, off-kilter-guitar mark here, too, with Lydia and Laura Rogers penning many of the other Put Your Needle Down cuts on their own.
