Back in December, we caught a glimpse of this Doug Paisley track in a promo clip, and now here’s the whole tune, a weary, unassuming acoustic number off his new record, Strong Feelings. The album includes guest turns from the likes of Emmett Kelly, Bazil Donovan, Gary Craig, Robbie Grunwaldon, and Mary Margaret O’Hara. But its most rare contribution comes from Paisley’s longtime collaborator: Garth Hudson, legendary multi-instrumentalist of the Band, on keys. Hudson’s skill for nuance, melodic flourishes, and nimble support of lead vox really bring the charm home on “What’s Up is Down.” Hear the LP standout streaming above.
