Here’s our first taste of Damien Jurado and producer Richard Swift’s new record, Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son, arriving January 21st via Secretly Canadian. The burning sage, stoned interviews, and general Joshua Tree vibe of the LP’s teaser trailer now make a lot more sense with “Silver Timothy,” a psych-pop jam expanding on Latin rhythms and set in this clip against Pacific Northwest Cascade rock formations. Director Justin Koleszar says the visuals were inspired by sci-fi flicks like Starman and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, but another film also comes to mind given the album’s narrative about a man getting lost: 1976’s Bowie-starring The Man Who Fell to Earth. Swift’s production is of particular note here, blending organic and digital elements into something both pastoral and otherworldly, capped off by my favorite flourish on the cut: Jurado’s voice multi-tracked to sound like howling wolves.
