Much has been said before and much more will be said in the years after Lou Reed (let’s call them BL and AL) about his singular rock genius. But let the record show: Lou Reed was a gracious collaborator, too. His 1968 ode to Candy Darling, “Candy Says,” featured Doug Yule singing lead at Lou’s insistence. Three decades later, he found Antony Hegarty, first as a backup singer and then hired to front his own solo band’s take on the VU classic. This clip of the pair has been a longtime favorite, and in light of today’s sad news, that look Reed gives at 5:14 is the most beautiful image I can offer right now. Watch above.
