Ontario singer-songwriter Basia Bulat released her third LP, an impressive, genre-melding set called Tall Tall Shadow, last week. It’s definitely worth a spin over at AV Club, but this cover she performed for them in May should not be overlooked, as well. On paper, it’s hard to imagine the Boss’ 1984 anthem “Glory Days” being made more evocative by a folk singer playing the pianoette (a rare cousin to the autoharp), but moments into Bulat’s Joni-esque take reveal a vital new angle on the tune, one which manages to keep its high nostalgic energy intact. Check it out above (Note: you might have to click the pause/play button twice).
