We Come From The Same Place is the “provisional” title for the next Allo Darlin’ LP. While promise of a followup to Europe and 2010’s enduring debut would abound regardless, we’d be remiss not giving frontwoman Elizabeth Morris’ solo EP — impromptu-recorded and released on the same day two weeks ago — its due. It was not long ago, after all, her band paid noted tribute to indie-pop veteran Darren Hayman, and now Morris joins him (he engineered the session while painting the artwork) with two songs penned on her great-great-great grandmother’s piano for the 4-track set, Optimism. Its off-the-cuff opening above, “Young Republic,” makes a number of things for fellow longtime Allo Darlin’ fans easy to explain: Morris is an incredibly interesting songwriter, her band deserves more ears, and this is a self-released one-off worth a spin or two or three.
