Back in 2009, a video of Phoenix unplugged at Paris’ Trocadero was among La Blogothèque’s first groundbreaking run of performance clips caught on location. Tracked from an off-kilter shot of Thomas Mars’ index finger before a disorienting spin through surrounding tourists, the segment introduced the world to the weight of a Phoenix tune deconstructed and filmmaker Vincent Moon, who would go on to work with Arcade Fire among many emerging acts. This year Colin Solal Cardo & Co. reconvened for another acoustic take in front of a monument in the French band’s hometown, the Palace of Versailles. Setting aside that now well-trodden path, they’ve taken it up a notch, literally, using a drone to catch aerial views of the rendition. Watch it above.
