The frontmen of this summer’s Americanarama Festival — Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, and Bobby Zimmerman of Bob Dylan — teamed up for the trio’s first onstage collaboration on Monday night, performing a cover of Rev. Gary Davis’ gospel-blues cut “Twelve Gates to the City” in Toronto. Tweedy and James let Bob hold the spotlight, of course, harmonizing on the choruses while Dylan sang lead and played keys. While on the surface this is a straightforward (and almost inevitable) team-up for a bill of this stature, it’s made all the more special considering the many times these guys have covered Dylan’s songs in the past — not to mention named a great breakup tune after his beard. In the event better footage doesn’t surface, check out a fan-caught glimpse of the moment above.
