Here’s our first taste of Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion‘s Wassaic Way, a new album the husband-wife duo recorded at Wilco’s Chicago studio with Jeff Tweedy and Pat Sansone co-producing. Featuring performances from both Wilco members along with multi-instrumentalist Charlie Rose and Vetiver drummer Otto Hauser, the set came together over a few months of sporadic rewrite (or “powwow,” as they put it) sessions with Tweedy, whose contribution to her iconic grandfather’s posthumous music on Mermaid Avenue made him “a part of the bigger Guthrie family,” Sarah Lee says. The result, per cat-punning opening cut “Chairman Meow,” reveals a tight-knit pop side to the folk duo, sunny and upbeat in time for summer. Hear it above. Wassaic Way arrives on August 6th via Rte 8 Records.
