Sub Pop have a promising new signee on their roster with Rose Windows, a 7-piece Seattle band led by songwriter Chris Cheveyo and — of particular note on this track — vocalist Rabia Qazi. Potential influences abound on “Wartime Lovers,” from ’60s psych-rock on its sleeve to traditional folk and eastern music woven in the stitches. Qazi even closes with a dramatic Goldfinger-tinged run in the final notes. It speaks to the septet’s singular, hippie vision that they’ve culled this all together seamlessly, not to mention found the most inspired place for a solo flute since Michael Kiwanuka’s “Tell Me a Tale.” Hear it above. Their full-length debut, The Sun Dogs, is due on June 25th.
