You have to hand it to James Williamson: following a 30-year hiatus from professional music, the Raw Power guitarist slipped near-seamlessly back in action a few years ago after retiring from his corporate gig in the wake of Ron Asheton’s passing. What’s more, he, Iggy Pop, Scott Asheton, and Mike Watt now have new Iggy and the Stooges material on the way. This is “Burn,” the first single from their Ready To Die LP, due on April 30th via Fat Possum. As you might have noticed in the crushed waveform above, these guys are still pushing volume into the red. Iggy’s voice still menaces, too, but Williamson’s 1973-ready guitar work is what makes the cut feel present and singed with youthful energy. Give it a spin above.
