Our first listen to Low and Jeff Tweedy’s new collaboration — an LP recorded at Wilco’s Chicago headquarters — arrived today in the form of “Plastic Cup,” their pensive, Tweedy-produced acoustic jam backed by spare percussion and laced with lovely harmony vocals from Mimi Parker. A promising preview, for sure, but also perhaps a glimpse at the vibe forthcoming on Mavis Staples’s next record helmed by the Wilco frontman, as Alan Sparhawk and Co. have said sessions were inspired by the “big, simple, raw and intimate” sounds they heard from that set when they stopped by Wilco’s loft studio earlier this year. Catch a glimpse of The Invisible Way, due on March 19th via SubPop, above.
