Though Mark Kozelek has appeared on screen in a few small film roles, tonight marked his television debut for the role we know him best: as the ex-Red House Painters frontman, Sun Kil Moon leader and solo artist with a bottomless cup of melancholic tunes. Fallon introduced him under the Sun Kil Moon banner (in promotion of the project’s new Among the Leaves LP), but Kozelek didn’t perform solo or with past SKM collaborators, as he brought Late Night house band the Roots along for a new nylon-string track and electric cut from the back catalog. In short, Kozelek fronting the Roots turns out to be an impressively seamless pairing.
