British singer-pianist Tom Odell has only shared a few demos and a track off his new Songs From Another Love EP so far, but if inspired clips like this are any indication, we’ll be hearing a lot more promising stuff from this guy in the months to come. Lily Rose Cooper (née Lily Allen) just signed him to her imprint, In the Name Of, saying she felt Odell’s live energy set him apart from “soppy and moany” contemporaries and that he reminded her of David Bowie. That shock of blonde hair aside, not hearing much Bowie here. But Jeff Buckley, Ryan Adams (particularly the way he strains a bit on certain notes), and a number of familiar names spring to mind. This performance of “Sense” was filmed by friends in Odell’s flat. “It was just past midnight,” he says, “really really hot and if you listen carefully, you can just about hear the neighbours banging on the walls…” Check it out above.
