Following a pair of lengthy rough-hewn cuts — “Ramada Inn” and “Walk Like a Giant” — off Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s new record, Psychedelic Pill, is this short-but-sweet nostalgia piece we heard Neil break out on acoustic over the summer. That solo-unplugged take on “Twisted Road” recalled “From Hank to Hendrix” a bit — with Young paying another homage to predecessors and contemporaries — but now the electric LP version of his Dylan/the Dead/Roy Orbison shout brings Poncho, Billy, and Ralph along for harmonies on the “musical ride” as well. Simply put, we’re three tracks into Young’s 35th studio record and he’s well on his way to carving out a late-career classic. Stream the album’s shortest tune above.
