In two weeks, Ben Gibbard will release Former Lives, a new collection of solo tunes the Death Cab frontman has had kicking around for years. Recorded in Los Angeles with Aaron Espinoza of Earlimart, the 12-track set features at least one song from past setlists (“Broken Yolk in Western Sky”), an Aimee Mann guest vocal (“Bigger Than Love”), and a fine little power-pop cut leading the charge as a single (“Teardrop Windows”). Official streams are at those links, but what’s piqued interest the most around here so far have been a pair of acoustic live previews: the aforementioned “Broken Yolk in Western Sky,” performed in 2007 at a house in Seattle, and last week’s debut of “Oh, Woe” in Big Sur, California.
