We’ve heard its opening two songs, “Who” and “Weekend In the Dust,” but now comes proof that David Byrne and St. Vincent’s Love This Giant is in no way front-loaded. If anything, this thing gets better and more confident as tracks toggle between Byrne’s trademark dynamic vocal approach and the metallic sheen of Annie Clark’s multi-tracked voice. That switching of voices — artistically and otherwise — to the forefront is so overt, in fact, they might seem a discordant match. But it really works, perhaps because the pair seem to revel in their respective strengths or, more likely, it’s the amped-up horn/rhythm section (Antibalas and the Dap-Kings) that helped this experiment find such cohesive results.
